David Eastlee is a versatile guitarist who has played in almost every conceivable musical
situation during the past 30 years including steady club work, tours, radio, television
and records. David has been in demand as a studio musician, vocal accompanist,
sideman as well as a leader of his own groups. He is a masterful guitarist, composer, author, teacher and arranger.
Originally interested in the Rock groups of the era, Eastlee was soon investigating their roots. "I explored the earlier black Blues masters who had inspired the Rock players
and the Blues led me to Jazz." A professional at fifteen, Eastlee started teaching when he was nineteen. Since moving to Los Angeles in 1977, he has played at hundreds of jam sessions and with scores of bands over the past couple of decades, immersing himself
in straight-ahead jazz while being inspired and learning from Ron Eschete, Don Mock,
Joe Diorio and the late Howard Roberts.
David has performed, shared the stage, recorded or jammed with:
Pete Jolly, Gerry Wiggins, Page Cavanaugh, Frank Strazzeri, Chick Corea, Sam Most,
Dick Shreve, Herb Mickman, Eugene Wright, David Carpenter, Kevin Axt, Phil Mallory,
Scott Colley, Harvey Newmark, Larance Marable, Nick Martinis, Earl Palmer, Howard Alden
Tom Brechtlein, Jack Coan, Don Mock, Howard Roberts, Carol Kaye, Ron Eschete
and Linda Hopkins among others.
In the earlier part of David's career, he shared the stage with such groups as Heart,
Pacific Gas and Electric and worked with Frank Zappa alumni cult figure Jeff Simmons
for three years, had bands with Jimi Hendrix impressionist Randy Hanson, toured the United States and Japan with Jomama and appeared on over 20 recordings.
However he has since decided to dedicate his career to performing creative
straight-ahead jazz, not only vintage standards but his own composed and swinging originals.
In addition, David is the author of the Guitar Method Books "Jazz Chord Connection"
and "Jazz Scale Connection" published by Hal Leonard and in print for 30 years!
Scott Yanow,
Author of nine jazz books including Jazz On Film,
Trumpet Kings, Bebop and History Of Recorded Jazz 1917-76
