This Week at CafeJazz.ca: ... it's trumpet lady Cindy Bradley in the spotlight - we're playing a sampling of three great tracks from the cd Bloom and those are part of the showcase segment. Then stay tuned for Fresh Trax in Hour 2 with all the latest and best in new music. Highlights on this edition are from Four80East and Les Sabler. Debuting on the show, we have Clarence McDonald & the Austrian combo of Thomas Partl and HP Höger, while Brian Tarquin & Frank Gambale cap the set. Later that same hour, we're dusting off a stack of tracks from back in the day - this time that includes Dave Koz & Bob Mamet. We'll be hearing from Dirk Richter and Randall Crissman as Vibes Alive as well there's something from Marc Antoine - while woven thruout like strands of silk in a tapestry are the likes of Nick Colionne, Richard Elliot, and Peter White!!
On After Hours ... Time, There Will Always Be Time! ... nowadays there's one thing there just doesn't seem to be enough of and it's time. We hope to address that with today's edition which is called Time, There Will Always be Time and this will be the first of a 5-part series with each & every spin selections having time, or some variation, as part of its title. So stay tuned for a few ageless and epic sounds such as The First Time, This Time Around, and It's Time for Love, with 13 temporal tunes in all. Opening this show is Jay Soto and he's backed by Gregg Karukas; as well as there's Danny Lerman and Chris Botti. Norman Brown launches set #2 and we continue with Snake Davis, Roberto Perera, Alex Bugnon, and Chieli Minucci. Meanwhile the final frame has Scott Wilkie and Marc Antoine in addition to Marion Meadows - then in the end, it's Gota 'the groove activator' with the very track for which we named the segment !!

This Week at Café Jazz ... it's a special edition wherein we review all the hottest tracks from the summer of '09 ! And this time that includes Paul Hardcastle, Rick Braun, George Benson, Marion Meadows, and Richard Elliot. New to the show are DF Michael, Anne Walsh, and Greg Adams' latest in East Bay Soul while also appearing are Candy Dulfer, Jay Soto, Craig Chaquico, and Marcus Johnson each with selections from their summer time releases. But to begin, we're heading straight to the new one from Peter White and a cd that debuted on our show just last week!! On After Hours ... More SOS!! As we continue sending out our "S.O.S.", all of today's music is brand new to the show. Brian Bromberg opens and we continue with Jessy J, HP Hoeger, Clarence McDonald, and Four80East. Set #2 has Les Sabler and Drew Davidson with something new from Paul Taylor in the middle. Then in the final set…there's music from a few new names in Dominic Amato and Dean Grech, as well as from Linny Nance and Larry Lagerberg; then it's Swedish saxman Jakob Elvstrøm with a scorching finisher !! This Week at CafeJazz.ca ... Season #13 opening show ... ... features Philippe Saisse & At World's Edge in the showcase spotlight. Hour 2 brings Fresh Trax with all the best in new music. Highlighting this edition is Peter White with the title track from his forthcoming release. Debuting we have Jazz Matrix's own James Colah & Mike Parlett with the Parlett/Colah Project and a selection that is, as of yet, unreleased! As well, we're playing a bit of catch-up with a couple of tracks from Shane Isenberg (also here on JM) and Richard Smith's L.A. Chillharmonic; meanwhile it's the group known as Tea rounding out the set! Then later that same hour, we're peeling back the calendar pages with a pack of tracks from back in the day - this time that includes Paul Taylor, Terry Disley and an all-time favourite from Craig Chaquico & Russ Freeman; while scattered thruout ... like moonbeams in the night ... we have the likes of Tom Grant, Steve Oliver, and Joe Ercole!!!
On After Hours ...On the Beach!! ... spurred by the summer heat, this edition is slathered with excitement - it's called On the Beach and naturally 'nough each of our spin selections has that very word in its title. So stay tuned for the sandy sounds of Venice Beach, Kissin' on the Beach, and Beach Days, with a dozen seaside tunes in all. We have Chris Rea opening the show with the namesake track for the feature, and he's backed by Germany's Blue Knights; as well as there's Marion Meadows and the down tempo style of the band RioListic. Gregg Karukas launches set #2 and we continue with Tom Braxton, Urban Jazz Coalition, and Earl Klugh. Meanwhile the closing set has David Sanborn, Soul Ballet, and Peter White. As part of our Canada Day celebrations, we're featuring the music of Canadian artists exclusively. We first tried this back in 2003, and each year we've come came back with a bigger & bolder version - this being our 7th annual installment promises to be the biggest and boldest to date. So get set to enjoy the unique vibe of a radio show unlike any other featuring Warren Hill, Gabriel, Alexander Zonjic, & Les Sabler as well as Four80East, Darren Rahn, Vince Mai, Steve Barakatt, & Dave Sereny. Additionally, we've included perennial favourites by Ray Garand, Shikandaza, & many more - all bear the "made in Canada" tag on a 100% Canadian review!! On After Hours ... SJIC continues!! .... more great Canadian grooves as we resume our Smooth Jazz In Canada review. Included in the initial set are selections from Greg Kavanagh and Liberty Silver, from one of our favourites in bass-lady Rhonda Smith, as well as from Frank Mills and David Blamires. This Week at CafeJazz.ca ... ...we have the band Shakatak with a three-pack of tracks from the Afterglow release. Hour two brings the Back Trax segment with favourites from back in the day. On this edition Dave Grusin & Lee Ritenour team on a tune from the 80s, we have a tribute to the great Ivan Lins by Sting as well as well as a pair of Urban Jazz projects. First there's Urban Jazz Coalition and then Urban Jazz Network while in the middle it's vintage Billy Cobham from the 70s. Later in the hour, there's a glitzy collection of current favourites, with Nils & Gregg Karukas in addition to Paula Atherton, and Joe Ercole; while featured thru-out are the likes of Cecil Ramirez, Velez Brothers, and Dave Koz! But as we near lift-off for a radio show unlike any other, we're starting with Jay Soto! On After Hours ...New Music!! ... on this installment we have 14 brand new selections on an all-new music edition. Today's line-up includes San Diego saxman Jason Weber, and trumpeter Larry Lagerberg, as well as there's guitarist Ron Smith and bassist Wayne Jones. Kicking off set #2 is Candy Dulfer while also appearing are Grant Geissman and Elan Trotman - there's music as well by Brian Kelly. Then in our final set, we have Richard Elliot, Craig Chaquico, and Roger Smith - while in the end there's Swing Out Sister with a remake of one of their hits from the 80s and finally Vince Mai gives us today's closing selection. But as we turn the first bit of musical sod, there's something new and this time it's by Paul Brown and Marc Antoine from French Connection. When hour 2 rolls into view, we have Fresh Trax with nothing but the latest and best in new music. On this edition, we have Craig Chaquico and Spyro Gyra. Also appearing Noel Webb and Hart Ramsey; while Jim Peterik formerly with the Ides of March and Survivor, rounds out the set with a tune from Lifeforce. Then later in the hour, we're blowing the dust off a stack of tracks from back in the day - this time that includes an all-time favourite from Marcos Ariel and a selection by Chris Korblein. As well, we'll be hearing from Paul Lamoureux and a classic by Ronnie Laws - while scattered thruout like gossamer on the wind are the likes of Marc Antoine, Joyce Cooling, and Pamela Williams. But as we rack 'em up for a radio show that's unlike any other - we're heading back to 2005 for a track from Nils!! On After Hours ...Second Wind!! …this edition is gonna blow you away as we have the second in a two-part series wherein each spin selections has the word wind in its title - this one naturally enough is called Second Wind!! So stay tuned if you will for breezy tracks such as Inherit The Wind, Wind Jam, and The Wind One Day, with 13 zephyry tunes in all! Michael O'Neill opens the show and he's backed by David Benoit, Louie Shelton, and the pairing of Wilton Felder & Bobby Womack with a classic from the 80s. Peter White kicks off set #2 and we continue with The Jazzmasters and guitarist Lawson Rollins. Then there's Andrew Glover and the twangy jazz stylings of Johnny A. Hour two, brings another installment of Back Trax with more favourites from back in the day - on this edition we have the late great Artie Traum as well as some vintage Booker T. & the MG's from the 60s - also appearing Bob Baldwin and Brooklyn Funk Essentials, while additionally there's a track by Present Tense from their debut. Then later in the hour, there's a flashy batch of current favourites, with Daniel Domenge & Gabriel in addition to The Ripps, Paul Hardcastle and Down To The Bone; while featured thru-out are Terry Disley, Earl Klugh, and Herb Alpert! On After Hours ...New Music!! ... from deep in the heart of studio B it's an all new music edition - we have 13 lucky selections all shiny and new. Today our line-up includes the Velez Brothers and a bit more from Gregg Karukas and the GK release and they're followed by Australian bassman Wayne Jones. Leading off in set #2 is Joyce Cooling with Hart Ramsey and Bernie Williams - additionally, there's new stuff as well from the band Spyro Gyra and keyboardist Brian Kelly. Then in our final set, there's music by Nils while we have another great track from Marion Meadows and the Secrets cd - also appearing are Swing Out Sister - while in the end, it's Brian Tarquin teaming with Frank Gambale for today's closing track. But to begin, we have something new of course and this time its from Jay Soto - the new one is called Mesmerized and from that fine effort we've selected a great melody called A Love Like Mine. So brother & sis, better grab Mom & Dad, cuz it's time again for the whole family to sit down round old radio - as we crack the seal on brand new listening !!

Also appearing Australian bassman Wayne Jones and keyboardist John Pedersen while Joan and Cristian The Velez Brothers round out the set with a tune from their brand new release. Then later in the hour, we're gonna peal back a few calendar pages with a stack of tracks from back in the day - this time that includes Tom Grant and Detroit saxman Dave McMurray. As well, there's the British band Shakatak and Canada's own Brian Hughes - while casually strewn about are musical gems from the likes of Marion Meadows, Acoustic Alchemy, and Richard Elliot. But as we weigh anchor for a radio show unlike any other - we're heading back to a Louie Shelton track that's definitely all about the groove!!
On After Hours ...Free As The Wind!! ... on the next edition it's going to be a blast with another of our theme shows - this one is called Free As The Wind as each of our spins has the word wind, windy, or some such variation as part of its title. So stay tuned for tracks such as Jamaican Wind, Windmill, and The Big Windy Cat as we present 13 "gusty tunes" in all. Opening the first set and the show is Steve Oliver and then following we have Gregg Karukas, saxman Jaared, and Nick Colionne. It's Jim Adkins kicking off set #2 and then we continue with Herb Alpert & Bob Baldwin. Then there's Lee Ritenour and the legendary Crusaders with the classic track that lent its name to this segment. Then in the end, we have Russ Freeman & Craig Chaquico teaming for a tune from the cd From The Redwoods to The Rockies; as well there's the Doc Powell Double Scale project - finally the late Artie Traum and keyboardist Chris Geith close the show. But as we set sail on this one hour whirlwind cruise there's a gentle breeze just starting to blow with Steve Oliver and the track Tradewinds on this Free As The Wind special !!
